Made Up (aka Charles Williams) is a London-based image-maker. His portfolio is brimming with typography, portraits and 3D pieces created for such clients as Uniqlo, The New Yorker and Converse. More recently, he’s been keeping himself busy by working on a new commission for Soho House, as well as some other personal illustration projects.

“Every project starts with very quick, rough, and often terrible sketches, from which I’ll develop tighter, less terrible sketches”, says Charles of his working process. “Once I think an idea has legs, I’ll create it in Illustrator. I try to stay as close to the original sketches as I can, as I think ideas are fresher on paper. But sometimes working digitally can produce its own innovations.

Charles took an abstract approach to designing these new tees. “I’ve been experimenting with using simple stripes to create 3D shapes for a while now”, he explains. “With these t shirts, I wanted to do something slightly different to my commercial work — something abstract, simple and bold.”
