The finest in fitness

It’s become cooler than ever to take care of yourself, and as the wellness industry booms, so does our hunger for more and better fitness options. The number of gyms across the UK is soon predicted to surpass 7,000, according to this FT report, with around 10 million total members, and this growth shows no sign of slowing. The average gym membership hovers just under £50 a month, but many of us are happy to spend upwards of £200 a month for a more curated experience, especially in London.

As more and more people expect a highly specialised experience from their fitness experience, so they expect their clothes to be high performance too, whether that’s gym t-shirts, leggings or sports bras. People are hungry for quality athleisure, and this should be a big consideration if you run a fitness studio or a gym. (Head here for an in-depth read on selling athleisure online; and here to read how personalised gym wear could be a game-changer for your fitness brand.) Below we’ve rounded up some of our favourite examples of fashion gym wear that turns heads.

FLEX Chelsea

FLEX put their emphasis on optimising the body, rather than the kind of intense, high-octane regimens that other gyms offer. Accordingly, when working with ICON to design tees and sweaters for their business, they focused on quality materials and a pared back design. The overall effect makes a quiet but firm statement suited to the gym’s ethos.

Psycle

Psycle promote exercise as a form of empowerment, and sell a full range of branded workout gear to accommodate different styles, fitness levels and body types. Tees, sports bras, leggings and tank tops are part of the core offering made with ICON. They also frequently collaborate with brands like Sweaty Betty and Lulu Lemon on limited edition capsule collections that always sell fast.

1Rebel

1Rebel is from the high-intensity school of fitness, and its dedicated patrons are gamely referred to as the ‘1Rebel Army’ for all their perseverance. 1Rebel’s merchandise helps people proudly declare their allegiance, but also makes room to be playful – seasonal slogans and cheesy workout puns help foster a fun sense of camaraderie that makes it a little easier to put the work in.

Barber’s

Barber’s point of difference is that they offer bouldering as a key part of their training facility, and they have built a ‘functional fitness’ programme around the kind of precision strength training that bouldering is brilliant for. Their logo features an old-fashioned kind of strongman on a retro-feeling medallion, and their black merchandise is the perfect backdrop for the bold design.

BXR London

BXR are one of London’s best known boxing studios, and they have partnered with another big name in fitness for their merchandise. By collaborating with Under Armour to create their workout gear, BXR know they are offering a tried and tested quality product to their customers.

Perhaps the most famous fitness tribe of the last decade, Soul Cycle was one of the first fitness brands to really monetise its brand  identity with a wide range of merchandise. As well as producing their own line of workout gear and accessories, they also frequently collaborate with partners ranging from Nike to jewellery designer Loren Stewart. Their e-shop offers candles, books, phone cases and more.
